Character

  • Experience and enthusiasm in leading children.

  • Ability to live on-site, in close proximity with fellow counselors, and with campers

  • Maturity and good judgment.

Education and Certifications

  • Minimum age of 18 years and one year of college experience, or 18 years old and comparable experience/maturity.

  • Junior counselors, under the age of 18, are accepted on a case-by-case basis, often having been long-term campers and Helpers, and/or with the recommendation of someone close to Woodbrooke.

  • Current certification by the American Red Cross in Standard First Aid and Child and Adult CPR by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or the equivalent.

  • Current certification in areas in which he/she has responsibility for leading specialized activities (e.g. lifeguarding, canoeing, swim lessons), from a nationally-known certifying body.

Physical

  • Excellent physical and mental health, abundant energy, and a sense of humor.

  • Ability to walk distances of one or more miles on uneven, steep terrain.

  • Ability to tolerate heat and humidity, including during physical activity.

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
